Discover the fascinating world of fungi – join us on an excursion!

If you would like to learn more about fungi, I warmly invite you to join me in exploring the diverse and mysterious world of fungi in the forests around Fulda.

The focus is on macrofungi – that is, fungi that are several centimetres in size and can be easily recognised with the naked eye. Together, we will search for edible mushrooms, poisonous mushrooms and many other interesting species.

On this excursion, you will learn:

• how diverse the ways fungi live are – whether as decomposers, mycorrhizal partners or parasites
• the valuable contribution fungi make to forest ecology
• how to become familiar with fungal taxonomy step by step
• how to use a mushroom identification guide effectively and what to look out for
• how to reliably identify a species of fungus independently, or at least its genus

Whether you are a beginner or a curious nature enthusiast, this excursion offers a sound and exciting introduction to the world of fungi.

Travel by public transport: 

Bus route 8 runs from the central bus station or Stadtschloss to Niesig, stop "Am Gerlos"; from there, it is approximately 1 km (around 15 minutes on foot) to the forest car park.

The RB 52 train (towards Gersfeld) runs from Fulda railway station to Rönshausen (e.g. at 09:20). From Rönshausen station, it is approximately 1.8 km (around 25 minutes on foot) to the car park at the sports ground. 

Important information:

- Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
- Please bring sufficient water and provisions, as well as a knife and a basket or a cloth bag. 
- The excursion will take place subject to weather conditions. We will inform you of any changes in good time by email - please ensure that you enter your email address correctly when registering!
